He used this slogan for peace to be re-elected to the unprecedented third 43 00:04:16.660 --> 00:04:23.680 term in 1940. This document played a major role in Hitler's decision 132 00:13:11.660 --> 00:13:17.180 to go ahead and declare war on America on December 11, 1941, which surprised and remains 133 00:13:17.180 --> 00:13:22.500 a mystery to most people, except to FDR. Pearl Harbor was shown to be extremely vulnerable 143 00:14:26.380 --> 00:14:32.260 to a surprise attack by aircraft carriers. The reports show that in order to prevent 144 00:14:32.260 --> 00:14:38.180 a surprise attack, that a large contingent of aircraft would be needed to provide a 360 145 00:14:38.180 --> 00:14:45.940 degree surveillance for a long distance all around Hawaii in order to prevent a surprise 146 00:14:45.940 --> 00:14:54.740 Secondly, FDR ordered that the Pacific Fleet be transferred from its base at San Diego 147 00:14:54.740 --> 00:15:01.780 to Pearl Harbor with virtually no air cover support. Admiral James O. Richardson, commander 148 00:15:01.780 --> 00:15:08.620 of the Pacific Fleet, was so violently opposed to this ridiculous order that he made a personal 149 00:15:08.620 --> 00:15:15.380 visit to the White House and protested precipitously to Roosevelt about this order, whereupon Roosevelt 150 00:15:15.380 --> 00:15:20.440 removed him as the commander of the Pacific Fleet and substituted the unfortunate Admiral 151 00:15:20.440 --> 00:15:26.540 Kimmel. Next, FDR began to deplete the Pacific Fleet and transfer many of its vessels to 152 00:15:26.540 --> 00:15:33.540 the Atlantic in order to aid the British and to try to provoke the Germans into making 153 00:15:34.180 --> 00:15:41.100 the first shot. Here's some more of FDR's provocative acts.
