NOTE Why are so many free market advocates suspicious of banks?

1
00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:08.000
Many of us, I think, tend to be, even though we're in favor of the free market or all-out adherence to the free market in general, tend to be suspicious of banks.

2
00:00:08.000 --> 00:00:13.000
And there's something about banks that seem to be a little non-kosher, so to speak.

3
00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:16.000
There's a good reason for this.

4
00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:28.000
The reason, basically, well, one reason is that even though I'm a libertarian and a free market person, I spend most of my time, it's not almost all of it, attacking the government in one aspect or another, and I think properly so.

5
00:00:28.000 --> 00:00:30.400
Sometimes we tend to forget there's also private crime.

6
00:00:30.400 --> 00:00:34.600
I mean, government is not the only criminal in the world, even though it's the major one.

7
00:00:34.600 --> 00:00:39.300
Government, of course, is the major robber, major murderer, major enslaver and so forth and so on.

8
00:00:39.300 --> 00:00:44.300
There's also private crime, which we shouldn't forget about in the overall picture.

9
00:00:44.300 --> 00:00:49.400
A private crime usually is intensified if the government helps it along.

10
00:00:49.400 --> 00:00:52.300
In other words, if the private criminals are in league with the government,

11
00:00:52.300 --> 00:00:55.600
they have a very deadly and powerful combination.

12
00:00:55.600 --> 00:00:57.840
This is essentially what's going on with much of banking.
